NRW road works delayed: Steinhagen street overhaul and Eiringhausen bridge repair postponed

In Steinhagen, the renovation of Bielefelder Straße, Woerdener Straße and Brockhagener Straße—first planned by the state road agency in 2018—has been postponed for years of political discussion and will finally begin in 2025, with further phases to follow. The project includes redesigning cycle and pedestrian routes and may involve new roundabouts, with costs to be covered by the municipal budget.

In Plettenberg, the 365‑metre Eiringhausen high bridge, a key crossing over the Ruhr‑Sieg railway and federal road B236, was slated for a 2026 refurbishment. Ongoing structural inspections using specialized under‑floor cameras have delayed the start of work until at least 2028 or 2029. The bridge currently operates with lane restrictions and speed limits to ensure safety until the full renovation can be carried out.

Both projects are overseen by the North Rhine‑Westphalia road authority and are expected to cause temporary traffic disruptions as work proceeds.
