NS to implement new rule prohibiting luggage on train seats
The Dutch national railway operator, NS, will implement a new house rule starting September 4, prohibiting passengers from placing luggage on train seats. The measure aims to ensure that seats are not unnecessarily occupied by hand luggage, leaving them available for passengers.
Following consultation with the Landelijk Overleg Consumentenbelangen Openbaar Vervoer (Locov), the rule will be added to the company's house rules rather than being included as a formal prohibition in the General Transport Conditions. An NS spokesperson clarified that passengers who do not comply will not be removed from the train; the rule is primarily intended to provide clarity for travelers.
