NSA surveillance of French presidents revealed via WikiLeaks

Classified documents released by WikiLeaks have revealed that the United States National Security Agency (NSA) monitored the communications of three French presidents: Jacques Chirac, Nicolas Sarkozy, and Francois Hollande.

The intelligence operations, which spanned from 2006 to 2012, included the collection of sensitive information regarding political discussions, diplomatic strategies, and French economic interests. One specific report detailed an NSA summary of a conversation between President Francois Hollande and Prime Minister Jean-Marc Ayrault on May 18, 2012, regarding the Greek debt crisis and its potential impact on the Eurozone.

These revelations, published in collaboration with French investigative media Mediapart and the newspaper Liberation, highlighted tensions between the two close defense and security partners.
