NSA to undergo major reorganization focusing on AI and China
The National Security Agency (NSA) is launching its most significant internal restructuring in over a decade. Led by Army Gen. Joshua Rudd, the reorganization aims to better align the agency with modern strategic priorities, specifically focusing on artificial intelligence, China, cybersecurity, combat support, and global intelligence.
The plan involves establishing five new mission centers, each headed by a mission director with authority comparable to a deputy director. These leaders may be recruited from outside the agency. The elite hacking unit, Tailored Access Operations (TAO), is slated to be integrated into the global intelligence organization.
Implementation is expected to begin in mid-October, with the goal of reaching full operational capability by mid-January. This rapid realignment is intended to accelerate the delivery of intelligence to real-world battlefields, though officials note the transition may disrupt existing bureaucratic processes.
