Nscale and CScale secure billions in funding for AI infrastructure and interconnects
Nscale has secured $3.36 billion in convertible financing to expand its AI infrastructure ahead of an initial public offering. The funding, led by Third Point and including participation from Apollo-managed funds, Citadel, and the Abu Dhabi Investment Council, aims to convert a massive backlog of AI contracts into active data center and GPU capacity. While Nscale reported $103.4 billion in total contract value as of August, only $2.6 billion is currently active. Nvidia is expected to contribute $1 billion of the total financing in mid-November.
In a separate development in the AI hardware sector, Palo Alto-based startup CScale has raised $145 million in Series C funding to develop optical interconnect technology for AI data centers. The round was led by Atreides Management, with Nvidia and Intel Capital participating as strategic investors. CScale’s technology focuses on creating integrated light engines that allow thousands of accelerators to function as a single unit, with a specific emphasis on maintaining compute continuity even during optical failures.
