NSCDC records 96 SGBV cases in Oyo State

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Oyo State Command reported 96 cases of Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV) between January and August 2026.

According to NSCDC Public Relations Officer Samuel Opebiyi, the recorded incidents include rape, defilement of minors, sexual assault, domestic violence, physical assault, psychological abuse, child abuse, exploitation, and sexual harassment. Domestic violence was identified as one of the most prevalent forms, followed by physical violence, rape, and the defilement of minors.

Of the 96 cases, 57 have been completed and closed, while seven are currently undergoing prosecution. The remaining 32 cases remain inconclusive due to challenges with complainants failing to follow up or present victims as witnesses in court. Opebiyi noted that the command requires evidence and witness participation to successfully prosecute offenders through the legal system.
