NSCN-IM denies involvement in Kotzim ambush
The National Socialist Council of Nagalim (NSCN-IM) has denied involvement in the May 13, 2026, ambush near Kotzim in the Kangpokpi district, which resulted in the deaths of three Thadou Baptist Association India (TBAI) church leaders. The deceased have been identified as Rev. Dr Vumthang Sitlhou, Rev. Kaigoulun Lhouvum, and Pastor Paogoulen Sitlhou.
In a statement from its Ministry of Information and Publicity, the NSCN-IM characterized allegations linking its members to the attack as “baseless, malicious and fabricated.” The organization further denied that an individual named MS Chekneichung Chiru, also known as Achung, is part of its ranks, calling the name fictitious.
The NSCN-IM stated that the attempts to implicate the group are intended to disrupt the peace process and create communal disharmony. The organization expressed support for the National Investigation Agency’s takeover of the case and called for a transparent, unbiased investigation to identify the actual perpetrators.
