NSE Indices announces Nifty 50 reshuffle as BSE Ltd replaces Wipro
NSE Indices has announced a major reshuffle of its benchmark indices, most notably the Nifty 50. Effective September 30, 2026, BSE Ltd will join the Nifty 50, replacing the IT firm Wipro. While Wipro will exit the blue-chip index, it will be moved to the Nifty Next 50.
The Nifty 100 and Nifty 500 indices are also undergoing significant changes. In the Nifty 100, companies including Indian Hotels, Lodha Developers, REC, Shree Cement, and United Spirits will be replaced by BSE, Hitachi Energy India, Polycab India, Vedanta Aluminium Metal, and Vodafone Idea.
Separately, day traders have called for a boycott against the Closing Auction Session (CAS) and rising taxes. Traders allege that the new mechanism has caused price divergences between the Nifty and Sensex indices, leading to losses. SEBI introduced the CAS to reduce end-of-day volatility and provide more stable closing prices, noting that the previous Volume Weighted Average Price (VWAP) method allowed large institutional trades to disproportionately skew prices.
