NSIWC urged to adopt proactive wage governance and digital reforms

During a three-day Board and Management Retreat in Abuja, stakeholders and government officials called for the reform of the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission (NSIWC) to ensure more effective wage governance.

Senator George Akume, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, urged the Commission to prioritize digital transformation, accountability, and institutional renewal. He emphasized the need for a wage system that balances worker expectations with the government’s fiscal realities and national economic development goals.

Aigboje Aig-Imoukhuedea, Non-Executive Chairman of Access Holdings Plc, advocated for proactive, evidence-based reforms ahead of the 2027 minimum wage review. He identified fragmented salary structures, inadequate data, and weak enforcement as primary challenges. To address these, he recommended strengthening the Commission’s database and publishing an annual State of Wage Governance Report to track compliance, productivity, and purchasing power.
