Nässjö's last bicycle shop Cykodel to close
The last bicycle shop in Nässjö, Cykodel, is closing its doors permanently at the end of September. Owner Göran Gärdeborg attributes the closure to a declining number of cyclists in the town.
Gärdeborg also criticized the Nässjö municipality's procurement process for benefit bicycles, which was awarded to a company based in Norrköping. He argues the decision does not benefit local residents. However, Nässjö's procurement manager, Peter Lindberg, stated that the Norrköping firm was selected because it received the highest total score based on established evaluation criteria, including administration and the ordering process.
According to statistician Andreas Holmström from Trafikanalys, while there was a significant drop in cycling trips—particularly among young people—around the turn of the millennium, cycling levels in the country have since stabilized at a lower level.
