Colombia extends Néstor Lorenzo’s contract as national team coach
The Colombian Football Federation confirmed that Argentine coach Néstor Lorenzo will continue as head coach of the men’s senior national team. The renewal was approved by the federation’s Executive Committee in Bogotá, though the length of the new agreement was not disclosed.
Lorenzo has been in charge since 2022, guiding Colombia to a sub‑championship at Copa América 2024, qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup and a round‑of‑16 appearance, where the team was eliminated by Switzerland on penalties. Under his tenure the side posted a 28‑match unbeaten run and a record of 31 wins, 12 draws and 8 defeats in 51 matches.
The federation said the decision reinforces its support for Lorenzo’s technical project as the team prepares for upcoming challenges, including Copa América 2028 and the qualification campaign for the 2030 World Cup.
