NSUI protests alleged purification ritual after Kharge rally

Members of the National Students' Union of India (NSUI) and Congress party staged protests in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, and Shimla, Himachal Pradesh, regarding an alleged ‘shuddhikaran’ (purification) ritual in Haldwani, Uttarakhand.

The ritual, a havan, reportedly took place at Ramlila Maidan following a Congress rally addressed by party president Mallikarjun Kharge on August 8. Congress leaders and NSUI members alleged the act was an anti-Dalit gesture intended to ‘purify’ the venue after Dalit participants attended the event.

BJP Leader of the House JP Nadda condemned the alleged incident, stating that the BJP does not subscribe to such activities, and promised an investigation into the allegations raised by Kharge.
