NSW Court of Criminal Appeal rejects sexual assault appeal
The NSW Court of Criminal Appeal has dismissed an appeal by a former Wagga Wagga resident, NR, who sought to overturn convictions for the sexual assault of his 14-year-old sister-in-law.
The charges stemmed from incidents occurring between December 1986 and December 1987 in Bankstown, Lake Tabourie, and Wagga Wagga. The court upheld three convictions related to an incident in Bankstown, where the victim alleged she was sexually assaulted while staying with the couple. The court found that the guilty verdicts were open to the jury and determined that, despite some inappropriate interventions by the trial judge, the trial remained fair.
