NSW deploys fish aggregating devices for summer season
The New South Wales government is deploying 34 Fish Aggregating Devices (FADs) along the coast from Tweed Heads to Eden to prepare for the summer fishing season. These GPS-tracked floating buoys are anchored up to 20 kilometres offshore and serve to attract baitfish and larger marine species, such as tuna, marlin, mahi mahi, and wahoo.
Funded through the Recreational Fishing Trust, the network is designed to assist recreational fishers in locating offshore game fish. The devices will remain in place throughout the warmer months and will be retrieved in early winter for maintenance and cleaning.
