NSW Government announces $5 million Penrith Lakes Fishing Park

The New South Wales Government has announced a $5 million investment to transform parts of Penrith Lakes into the Penrith Lakes Fishing Park. Scheduled to open in 2028, the project aims to create a flagship recreational fishing destination for Western Sydney by converting two artificial waterbodies into family-friendly fishing lakes.

The development will include several new facilities designed for accessibility and safety, such as fishing platforms, disabled access ramps, walking tracks, car parks, fish cleaning tables, and picnic areas with restrooms. To initiate the project, Ministers Prue Car and Tara Moriarty released over 200 native Australian bass fish into the lakes as part of a stocking program to establish a unique marine environment.

Currently, public access to the two central waterbodies is restricted. The project intends to provide free, world-class outdoor spaces to support local communities and increase participation in recreational fishing.
