NSW Government announces hospital upgrades and openings

The New South Wales government has unveiled plans for a $265 million redevelopment of the Port Macquarie Base Hospital. The project will add over 10,000 square metres of space, including a new multi-storey Inpatient Unit, an Acute Geriatric Evaluation and Management block, and expanded Emergency Department facilities. The upgrade also includes relocated maternity and neonatal care units. Construction is slated to begin in 2027.

In a separate development, the $440 million Shoalhaven Memorial Hospital redevelopment has officially opened to patients. Premier Chris Minns and Health Minister Ryan Park visited the facility to mark the opening of the new seven-storey acute services building. While acknowledging potential transition challenges, officials emphasized the significant investment in regional healthcare infrastructure.
