NSW Opposition MP Alister Henskens faces scrutiny over legal role for Sanjeev Gupta

Alister Henskens, the Member for Wahroonga and a senior shadow minister for the NSW Opposition, is facing criticism for representing Sanjeev Gupta’s company, Clydesdale Engineering, in Supreme Court liquidation proceedings.

The case involves Tahmoor Coal, a company that owes the state of New South Wales $29 million in unpaid royalties. Investigations are probing transactions between Clydesdale and Tahmoor Coal, including one valued at nearly $28 million. Previous proceedings indicated that $427 million had been transferred from Tahmoor Coal to other companies owned by Gupta.

NSW Resources Minister Courtney Houssos questioned Henskens' decision during a budget estimates hearing, describing it as “interesting” and suggesting his legal work may conflict with his responsibilities to the people of NSW.
