NSW Police arrest supervisor for alleged high-range drink driving

A 40-year-old man was charged after allegedly returning a high-range blood-alcohol reading while supervising a learner driver in Charlestown. During a random stop by highway patrol police on Ridley Street, the man, who was acting as the fully licensed supervisor, allegedly recorded a reading of 0.310.

Under current regulations, supervisors of learner drivers must adhere to the same alcohol limits as fully licensed drivers, which is 0.05. The man's alleged reading was more than six times this legal limit.

The incident occurred as part of ‘Operation Raid’, a statewide traffic enforcement blitz targeting drivers impaired by alcohol, drugs, or fatigue. According to NSW Police, more than 7,000 drivers faced enforcement action during the operation, which ran from Thursday through Sunday.
