Simultaneously, NSW Police have commenced Operation Labour Day 2026, running from 2 October to 5 October. The campaign focuses on road safety following a rise in fatalities, with 261 deaths recorded this year compared to 250 during the same period last year. Officers will conduct high-visibility patrols and random testing for drugs and alcohol. Double demerit points will be in effect for certain offences, with a specific focus on speeding, fatigue, mobile phone use, and drink or drug driving.
