NSW regional rail stations to close for infrastructure upgrades
Several regional rail stations in New South Wales will undergo temporary closures to prepare for the introduction of a new state-of-the-art regional rail fleet. From October 21 to December 2, trains will not stop at Armidale, Uralla, Walcha Road, Kootingal, and Tamworth stations while infrastructure upgrades are completed.
Replacement coach services will be provided during the closure period. The upgrades include platform resurfacing, accessibility improvements, new lighting, fencing, drainage, and the installation of assisted boarding infrastructure.
The project is part of a transition to new bi-mode trains, which represent an Australian first for regional passengers. These trains will operate on electric power on electrified networks and switch to diesel when necessary. The new fleet will feature improved accessibility, power outlets, and reclining, swiveling seats.
