NSW SES trials amphibious vehicle and conducts flood rescue training
The New South Wales State Emergency Service (NSW SES) is conducting several training and capability trials to enhance flood response efforts. On the Mid North Coast, the agency is trialling an eight-wheel amphibious Argo vehicle. This 12-month trial aims to determine if the vehicle can improve access to communities isolated by flooding, as it is capable of transitioning between land and water through marshes, boggy ground, and difficult terrain.
Simultaneously, more than 30 SES volunteers from across Sydney participated in a flood rescue training exercise on the Nepean River. The drill focused on boat operations, casualty management, and high-speed maneuvers, while also incorporating familiarization with new Light Flood Rescue Vehicles. These exercises are intended to strengthen teamwork and technical skills ahead of the summer season, following a year where NSW SES members responded to over 160 flood rescues statewide.
