NSW Small Winemakers Wine Show reports high medal counts

The 34th annual NSW Small Winemakers Wine Show in Forbes showcased high-quality entries from across New South Wales. The event featured 507 wines from 95 different wineries, with 61 per cent of the entries receiving medals, marking the second strongest result in the history of the competition.

Judges awarded 52 gold medals for wines scoring between 95 and 100 points, alongside 82 silver and 174 bronze medals. Entries represented various regions, including the Hunter, Mudgee, Orange, Canberra, Illawarra, Southern Highlands, Hilltops, and Tumbarumba.

Mark Richardson, chair of judges and senior winemaker with Tyrrell's Wines, noted a continuing trend of increasing quality in the wines presented. While classic varieties such as chardonnay, semillon, and shiraz remained prominent, there was also a notable increase in the presence of Spanish, Italian, and non-traditional French varieties.
