NTPC seeks international buyers for green ammonia
NTPC is seeking buyers in Japan, South Korea, and Germany for green ammonia and green methanol. The company is developing a hydrogen hub in Andhra Pradesh, which includes the construction of a 20-kilometer pipeline to transition from pilot projects to commercial off-take.
Green ammonia is produced via electrolysis using renewable energy rather than natural gas. It serves as a critical resource for fertilizer, a potential maritime fuel, and a medium for transporting hydrogen across oceans. While traditional ammonia production accounts for approximately 2% of global end-use energy and significant CO2 emissions, green alternatives aim to decarbonize these sectors.
Financially, NTPC reported a 7.8% increase in revenue to 50,741 crore rupees and a 12.9% increase in net profit to 6,896 crore rupees for the first quarter of the 2027 fiscal year. The company is maintaining a capacity expansion goal of 9.5 gigawatts, with 8 gigawatts focused on renewable sources.
