NTS Commissioner denies political influence in tax audits

During a National Assembly audit of the National Tax Service (NTS) on the 13th, NTS Commissioner Lim Kwang-hyun denied allegations that tax audits are being conducted under presidential orders. Responding to claims from opposition lawmakers that specific companies, such as Coupang and Nonghyup, are targeted due to political instructions, Lim emphasized that the agency operates with neutrality and follows strict principles to perform its essential duties.

Lim also addressed inquiries regarding potential tax evasion within the Korea Football Association (KFA). Following reports of suspected tax evasion involving payments made to an employee of HDC during former chairman Chung Mong-gyu's tenure, Lim stated that the NTS would take strict action if their systems identify any legal violations. He noted that the agency evaluates the benefits of preventing tax evasion against the potential burden placed on corporations.
