NTSA conducts safety training in Garissa amid sector regulation disputes

The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has launched intensified training and sensitization programs for Public Service Vehicle (PSV) operators in Garissa. The initiative aims to reduce road crashes by educating drivers and conductors on road safety practices, speed limit adherence, and proper vehicle maintenance.

Simultaneously, the Motorists Association of Kenya (MAK) has challenged the NTSA regarding its ability to regulate the matatu sector. MAK questioned the regulator's effectiveness after the NTSA Director General stated that the industry is difficult to monitor due to opaque ownership structures and a lack of clear data on investors. The association argued that the regulator's inability to identify vehicle owners undermines accountability and consistency in enforcement.
