NTSB reports on fatal Fresno plane crash involving Eady family
The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has released a preliminary report regarding a fatal aircraft crash in northwest Fresno, California, which occurred on September 5. The accident resulted in the deaths of four members of the Eady family: pilot Danna Eady, her husband Craig, and two of their youngest sons.
According to the report, the family was flying in a Grumman American AA-5 airplane from the Sierra Sky Park Airport. Surveillance footage and text messages indicate that the pilot had been experiencing radio issues prior to the flight, and a mechanic had inspected the aircraft shortly before the second takeoff attempt.
Witnesses observed the plane lift off with a sudden upward nose attitude and a weak-sounding engine. The aircraft eventually crashed approximately 1,000 feet northwest of the runway end, striking a tree. A post-crash fire destroyed the wreckage and burned roughly one acre of the surrounding area.
