NTT DOCOMO BUSINESS migrates database platform to Oracle Cloud

NTT DOCOMO BUSINESS has migrated its shared internal database platform to the Oracle Autonomous AI Database on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI). The migration involved moving tens of terabytes of data from an on-premises environment to the cloud.

The transition supports 12 critical internal systems, including network management, security, and service operations, which are connected to approximately 400 servers. By adopting the cloud-based platform, the company reported a 43 percent reduction in database license costs compared to its previous on-premises setup. During the hybrid phase of the migration, cost savings reached up to 51 percent.

In addition to cost reductions, the company utilized automation for patching, backups, and routine maintenance to reduce administrative workloads and improve vulnerability management. The new infrastructure leverages two OCI regions within Japan to enhance disaster recovery and business continuity.
