NTT Docomo to expand satellite services via Starlink
NTT Docomo has reached an agreement with Starlink Japan, GK to utilize the next-generation “Starlink Mobile V2” satellite constellation. This partnership aims to expand satellite-to-smartphone direct communication services by fiscal year 2028.
While current services primarily support text messaging, the upcoming upgrade will introduce high-speed internet capabilities, including web browsing and voice calls. The expansion is also intended to support direct communication with IoT devices, facilitating remote monitoring and data collection in challenging environments such as mountainous regions and maritime areas.
For business clients, the service will be managed through NTT Docomo Business. The initiative is part of the “NTT C89” brand, a group-wide effort to expand space-related businesses and provide social solutions through aerospace technology.
