NTT reports sevenfold increase in cyberattacks
NTT President Akira Shimada announced during a financial results briefing that the number of detected cyberattacks against the group increased sevenfold in October compared to the same month last year. The company confirmed five incidents involving suspected information leaks, including at an e-book store operated by a subsidiary.
The attacks also targeted customer information for solar power remote monitoring services and involved phishing emails used to illicitly obtain personal data. Shimada stated that there has been no serious impact on systems supporting critical infrastructure. To strengthen defenses, he emphasized the necessity of utilizing advanced AI and called for the development of sovereign AI within Japan to reduce reliance on foreign technology.
