NTUA Rectorate building opens to public after renovation

The historic neoclassical rectorate building of the National Technical University of Athens on Patision Street, part of the architectural trio with the Avraam and Fine Arts School buildings, has completed a three‑year restoration. The renovation highlights the university’s artistic heritage, displaying sculptures, busts, paintings and historic artifacts that trace the institution’s development and the evolution of technical education in Greece.

A dedicated exhibition on the November 1973 Polytechnic uprising, curated by Associated Press photographer Aristotelis Sarriokostas, is housed in the former Old Secretariat hall, while a new underground room presents additional documents and technological relics. The updated interior design enables organized presentation of collections and provides conference facilities. The rectorate is scheduled to open to the public in October 2026, beginning with organized school visits, marking a new era of outreach for the university.
