Nu. D-36 aircraft replica completes first flight in Turkey

A flying replica of the Nu. D-36, a training aircraft originally produced in 1936 by Turkish aviation pioneer Nuri Demirağ, has successfully completed its first test flight in Eskişehir, Turkey.

Developed by an 11-person team from Mach Teknik under the leadership of aerobatic pilot Ali İsmet Öztürk, the replica was built from scratch over an eight-month period. The project was part of the “Cultural Aviation Projects” initiated by the Sivrihisar Aviation Club Association. To ensure modern flight safety, the team utilized an R670 engine from the 1940s instead of the 1930s-era engine used in the original model.

Following the successful test flight, there are plans to add the aircraft to the inventory of the M. S. Ö. Air and Space Museum. An official handover ceremony is expected to take place on August 29 at the Sivrihisar Aviation Center in the Yeşilköy neighborhood of Sivrihisar.
