Nuance Audio launches smart glasses with integrated hearing aids

EssilorLuxottica subsidiary Nuance Audio has released the Nuance Audio Plus, a pair of smart glasses designed to function as FDA-cleared, over-the-counter hearing aids. Targeted at individuals with mild to moderate hearing loss, the device integrates hearing aid technology directly into the frame arms while maintaining a discreet appearance similar to standard eyewear.

The Plus model features several upgrades over previous versions, including enhanced sound amplification, improved speech clarity, and a battery life of up to 10 hours. Users can manage settings via a smartphone app, which offers two primary modes: ‘Frontal’ for focusing on direct conversations and ‘All-Around’ for ambient environmental sound. The app also includes four preset sound gain profiles and three levels of noise reduction.

Hardware improvements include physical buttons on the frames for power and volume control. To conserve energy, the glasses enter sleep mode when the arms are folded. The product is available in the United States starting at $829, with additional costs for prescription lenses. It is offered in three frame styles—Square, Pathos, and Upturn—and five color options.
