Nubank expands into the U.S. and launches multicurrency digital account
Brazilian neobank Nubank has launched operations in the United States using a partner bank model. Through an arrangement with Kansas City-based Lead Bank, Nubank will hold customer deposits, allowing the company to gather user feedback while awaiting full approval for a U.S. banking license from the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency, which is currently projected for a 2027 rollout.
In conjunction with its U.S. expansion, Nubank has introduced Nu Global, a multicurrency digital account designed to support no-fee money movement across more than 35 countries. To power the digital asset capabilities of this new account, Nubank has partnered with Swiss bank Sygnum. Sygnum will provide the B2B infrastructure necessary for customers to buy, hold, and trade a selection of cryptocurrencies and stablecoins, as well as handle the custody of these digital assets under Swiss regulatory frameworks.
