Nubank launches U.S. operations and Nu Global international account

Nubank, the Latin American digital banking giant, has officially launched its operations in the United States. The expansion was announced by founder David Vélez and co-founder Cristina Junqueira during an event in Miami. To facilitate its entry into the U.S. market, the company is utilizing a partner-bank model through Lead Bank, an FDIC-insured institution, while its own national bank charter remains subject to pending approvals from the Federal Reserve and the FDIC.

The initial U.S. product suite includes a high-yield deposit account offering a 3.5% APY, a Mastercard credit card with no annual fee and 1.5% unlimited cashback, and a debit card.

Simultaneously, Nubank introduced Nu Global, a multi-currency digital account designed for international users. This service integrates Circle’s stablecoins, specifically USDC and EURC, to enable fast and fee-free money transfers across more than 35 countries, including parts of Europe and Latin America. The company aims to leverage this global model to reach between 100 million and 150 million customers in the U.S. market, targeting both the large Hispanic community and the broader unbanked or underbanked population.
