Nuclear power simulation advances through AI and regional training hubs
Developments in nuclear power simulation are advancing through both technological integration and regional infrastructure expansion. In the United States, GSE Solutions and Nuclearn have announced a strategic collaboration to integrate machine intelligence with high-fidelity nuclear plant simulators. This partnership aims to allow instructors to use natural-language prompts to generate training scenarios and automated summaries. The technology will also support adaptive assessments that adjust to trainee performance and provide plant-specific physics explanations.
In Africa, Ghana has acquired a nuclear power plant simulator through the Foundational Infrastructure for Responsible Use of Small Modular Reactor Technology programme. Located at the Ghana Atomic Energy Commission, the simulator is based on a NuScale small modular reactor design. It serves as a controlled environment for personnel to practice operations and test procedures. The facility is currently being used to train staff from Ghana, Nigeria, and Kenya to help meet international safety standards ahead of the country’s planned nuclear power programme.
