Nucor's $4 B West Virginia Steel Plant Advances, Ramp‑up Planned for 2027

Nucor Steel is progressing with construction of its new sheet‑mill plant in Apple Grove, West Virginia, near Point Pleasant along the Ohio River. The $4 billion, 1,700‑acre project will eventually have a three‑million‑ton sheet capacity.

Commissioning work continues through the year, including inspection and testing of all mill areas and the first coil run through the pickle line in June. The company expects the plant to begin ramp‑up in 2027, with full run‑rate and expanded capacity targeted for 2028. CEO Leon Topalian said the facility should contribute to earnings for the next two to four decades and boost Nucor’s overall earnings profile. Nucor reported $1.2 billion in net earnings for the second quarter.
