Nueva Canarias-Bloque Canarista accuses Canary Islands government of electoral fraud

Luis Campos, Secretary General of Nueva Canarias-Bloque Canarista (NC-BC), has accused the Canary Islands government of electoral fraud following the decision not to reduce the IGIC tax rate. The regional Finance Minister, Matilde Asián, confirmed that the general IGIC rate will remain at seven percent instead of dropping to five percent, a move that was part of previous electoral promises made by Coalición Canaria (CC) and the People's Party (PP).

Campos stated that NC-BC had warned during the 2023 investiture debate that such a tax reduction was unfeasible. He noted that implementing a two-point reduction would require budgetary adjustments exceeding 1,000 million euros, potentially leading to cuts in healthcare, education, and social services.
