Nueva Canarias demands rehabilitation of Tazacorte's Casa del Mar

The Nueva Canarias – Bloque Canarista municipal group has submitted a motion to the Tazacorte City Council demanding that the Government of the Canary Islands undertake the full rehabilitation of the Casa del Mar in the Port of Tazacorte.

The initiative aims to transform the historic building into the future Tazacorte Sea Museum. Although the Directorate General of Heritage acquired the property from the National Social Security Institute in March 2023, political changes in the regional executive have reportedly stalled the project. The building has faced approximately fifteen years of abandonment, leading to structural deterioration that impacts safety and the local maritime image.

The motion requests that the regional government allocate specific funds in the upcoming annual budget to halt technical degradation and preserve the local ethnographic and fishing heritage. Proponents argue the center would serve as a significant tourism resource to boost the local economy.
