Nueva Esparta authorities distribute water tanks to combat regional shortage

Authorities in Nueva Esparta are implementing measures to address a water crisis caused by failures in the Turimiquire system. Governor Marisel Velásquez, through the Instituto Neoespartano Socialista para la Vivienda y Hábitat (Insvih), has distributed 121 water storage tanks to families in the Díaz municipality. This initiative, supported by the national government and the Ministry of Water, aims to provide households with secure ways to store water provided by cisterns. To date, 971 tanks have been delivered in the region.

In a separate legislative development, regional lawmaker Johan Yánez has called for national negotiations to address structural issues affecting the state, including public sector salaries, electricity, and the water supply. Yánez proposed utilizing foreign assets and oil revenues to fund critical infrastructure, such as the construction of a new submarine aqueduct, to provide a long-term solution to the island's water shortages.
