Nueva Esparta expands seafood and seaweed exports to global markets
The Nueva Esparta Special Economic Zone (ZEENE) has successfully completed a new shipment of 164 metric tons of products, consisting of 136 tons of frozen fish—including octopus, snapper, grouper, and sardines—and 28 tons of dehydrated seaweed. The shipment is destined for markets in Peru, Panama, the Dominican Republic, Canada, and China.
This export activity reflects a significant upward trend for the region. During the first ten months of 2026, exports from Nueva Esparta grew by 54% compared to the same period in 2025, totaling over 2,505 metric tons. This growth is attributed to coordinated efforts between the ministries of Fisheries and Aquaculture, Foreign Relations and International Trade, the ZEENE, and Bolivariana de Puertos, alongside local producers.
Samir Al Attrach, the Single Authority of the ZEENE, stated that these actions aim to consolidate a diversified and self-sustaining economic base oriented toward exports to ensure long-term growth.
