Nueva Esparta implements water contingency plan
The Nueva Esparta government is implementing a comprehensive water contingency plan to mitigate the impact of shortages in the Turimiquire system. To stabilize potable water services across the state's 11 municipalities, authorities have deployed a fleet of over 20 super-cisterns to serve local communities.
Key infrastructure developments include the installation of 20 desalination plants, which have reached 70% progress in areas such as Los Cocos, Bahía de Plata, and El Turpial. Additionally, the regional government has finalized technical projects to optimize the San Juan and La Aguada dikes to move toward regional water independence. To assist immediate household needs, a program is underway to distribute water tanks with lids through local municipal collaborations.
