Nuevitas thermoelectric plant unit six fails due to boiler damage
Unit six of the 10 de Octubre Thermoelectric Plant in Nuevitas has been removed from the National Electric System following a boiler failure. The incident occurred at 5:23 p.m. on Thursday due to overpressure in a tube located on the right side wall of the furnace.
Plant manager Luis Miguel Maure Mestril stated that workers are currently draining the boiler to access the specific point of the rupture. Technical assessments suggest that adjacent tubes may also have reduced thickness, which will be inspected during a deep evaluation. Specialists from the Electric Power Plant Maintenance Company (EMCE) are scheduled to conduct a comprehensive damage assessment and repair work.
The failure is reportedly linked to instability previously recorded in the eastern part of the country. While the National Electric System had been fully restored earlier in the evening, the outage of the Nuevitas unit remains a concern for operators due to its critical role in stabilizing the central-eastern region.
