Nuevo Casas Grandes sees drug bust and vehicle‑registration protest

Police from the Agencia Estatal de Investigación and the Mexican army’s SEDENA stopped a Jeep Liberty without plates in the Reforma neighborhood of Nuevo Casas Grandes, Chihuahua, and arrested Jorge Armando J. D. after finding roughly 7.7 grams of marijuana and about 0.4 grams of crystal. The suspect was taken into custody and the seized substances turned over to the Ministry of Public Prosecution.

Separately, local activist Leticia Iveth Lara Quezada launched a campaign to compile a list of owners of foreign‑origin vehicles whose registration plates (“engomado”) were never delivered by federal authorities. The petition aims to pressure the federal government to honor the vehicle‑regularisation decree and to arrange a special window for late plate delivery, with registration offices scheduled to receive documents in Ascensión, Janos and Nuevo Casas Grandes during the last week of June.
