Nuevo Laredo Women's Institute launches therapeutic “Orugas‑Mariposas” program

The Instituto Municipal de la Mujer (INMUJER) in Nuevo Laredo, Tamaulipas, is advancing its Project Orugas‑Mariposas, a therapeutic initiative for women aged 18‑59 who have experienced violence. The program provides gender‑focused, human‑rights‑based group therapy sessions, each lasting two hours once a week for ten weeks (about two and a half months). The first cohort has completed the process, and a second group has already begun. Recruitment remains open, forming groups of 10‑15 participants, with meetings scheduled on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Salón Palabra de Mujer, and itinerant sessions offered on request. The project aligns with Mexico’s NOM‑046‑SSA2‑2005 standards on family and sexual violence and seeks to empower participants, promote emotional health, detect risk early, and prevent further abuse.

The initiative reflects a broader municipal effort to address gender‑based violence through specialized support, community networking, and ongoing therapeutic outreach for women in vulnerable situations.
