Nuevo León Congress launches impeachment proceedings against Governor Samuel García

The Anticorruption Commission of the Nuevo León state congress voted to initiate a political trial against Governor Samuel García, citing allegations of large‑scale irregularities in the handling of public funds. Investigations suggest a triangulation scheme that funneled more than one billion pesos to firms linked to the governor’s father and half‑brother, including the law firm "Firma Jurídica y Fiscal Abogados" and the company "Saga Tierras y Bienes Inmuebles." The federal Attorney General’s Office is also probing the matter, though it has not issued a definitive conclusion.

Governor García has denied any wrongdoing, calling the accusations a “refrito” and pointing to a state justice department resolution that found no criminal action. Under the legislative process, he has 15 business days to submit a written or oral defence, after which the full congress will consider the case, requiring a minimum of 28 affirmative votes for a final decision. This marks the fourth attempt by the Nuevo León legislature to hold the governor accountable since 2022, reflecting ongoing political tensions in the state.
