Nuevo León Governor faces scrutiny over infrastructure claims
During the legislative review of his fifth report, Nuevo León Governor Samuel García faced questioning regarding the accuracy of his administration's claims concerning public transportation and road construction.
Regarding mobility, officials clarified that while the Governor claimed 4,300 new buses were put into operation, only 2,814 units are currently circulating. Abraham Vargas, head of the Mobility Institute, explained that 3,100 green buses were acquired through leases, with 300 still pending delivery. The discrepancy arises from the inclusion of 400 Transmetro buses and 800 older vehicles operated by traditional transport companies in the Governor's total figure.
Additionally, García's claims of constructing eight new highways were challenged in the state Congress. While the Governor asserted that seven new roads have been completed, critics noted that many of these projects are actually rehabilitations or expansions of existing routes, including the completion of projects initiated by previous administrations. García defended the investments by stating that improvements to the Colombia Customs office generate 5 billion pesos in additional participation funds, which helped finance the road projects.
