Nuevo León Governor Samuel García Faces Impeachment Investigation

The Anticorruption Commission of the Nuevo León State Congress voted to open the investigative phase of the political trial against Governor Samuel García Sepúlveda. Legislators approved a request for certified information from 69 state and federal agencies and the contracts of 12 companies alleged to be linked to a possible triangulation of public funds. The agencies have six business days to comply, and the state public defender’s office must appoint a lawyer for the governor within three days.

The commission rejected calls to suspend the process, allowing the investigation to proceed. A final report is expected around mid‑August, when the state Congress could vote on García’s removal, which would require a qualified majority. If the vote proceeds, the case would be referred to the Superior Court of Justice for a final ruling.
