Nuevo León legislature launches political trial against Governor Samuel García
The Anti‑corruption Commission of the Nuevo León Congress approved, by a 6‑1 vote, the initiation of a political trial (juicio político) against Governor Samuel García Sepúlveda. The motion, supported by legislators from the PRI, PAN and one Morena deputy and opposed by a Movimiento Ciudadano deputy, cites alleged triangulation of nearly one billion pesos of public funds to firms linked to the governor’s family. The indictment originated from a June 8 complaint filed by Morena state leader Anabel del Roble Alcocer and is also under investigation by the Federal Prosecutor’s Office (FGR) for possible money‑laundering and transfers to U.S. accounts.
The commission ordered the governor to submit a defense within 15 business days, either in person, in writing, or through legal representation. A hearing is set for 23 June at 16:00 in the state Congress, after which the case will proceed to the full legislative chamber. Governor García has publicly dismissed the allegations as a “refrito,” noting that a state audit found no irregularities. The session saw absences of several Morena deputies and a PVEM member, reflecting political tensions ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup events slated for Monterrey.
