Nuevo León Governor Samuel Garcia Faces Political Trial
Local deputy Lorena de la Garza of Monterrey publicly challenged Governor Samuel Garcia for repeatedly filing amparos to stop a political impeachment proceeding. The amparos were filed after a judge temporarily suspended the impeachment process, citing that officials who have done nothing improper should allow investigations to continue. Garza urged the governor to abandon the legal maneuvers, face the impeachment openly, and deliver answers to the people of Nuevo León. She called for impartiality from the courts, noting the judge who issued the suspension had previously appeared in political campaign materials. The state Congress affirmed it will keep moving forward with the impeachment review as the procedure advances.
