Nuevo León launches urban regeneration and vehicle regularization programs
The government of Nuevo León has announced a major urban regeneration project aimed at improving infrastructure across six municipalities in the Monterrey metropolitan area. Managed through the ‘Ponte Nuevo’ trust, the initiative will focus on a 35-kilometer corridor spanning the Metro Lines 4 and 6, connecting San Pedro to the Monterrey International Airport.
Key actions include repaving roads affected by construction, improving sidewalks, landscaping medians, and recovering abandoned urban spaces. The project also intends to enhance viaduct columns with lighting, paint, and murals, while transforming residual areas into spaces for recreational, sporting, and cultural activities. Architect Gerardo García Martínez will lead the trust under the direction of Governor Samuel García Sepúlveda.
In a related administrative effort, the state has launched the ‘Ponte Nuevo, Ponte León’ program to facilitate the regularization of vehicles with out-of-state license plates. Aimed at residents who live, work, or study in Nuevo León, the program offers a one-time payment of 5,865 pesos to cover registration, plates, and documentation. The program includes subsidies for ownership transfers and will utilize mobile brigades to bring vehicle control services directly to citizens.
